Rajasthan Royals tame IPL champs Mumbai Indians in CLT20

After qualifying stages of the 2013 Champions League, the league got on its way from 21st September. The 2013 Champions League has been once again hosted by India and the first match was scheduled to happen between current IPL Champions, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals, team placed third in 2013 IPL points table and the last default qualifier of Indian Premier League to the current year’s Champions League. The match was hosted on the home ground of Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur.

While Rajasthan Royals have performed inspiring even after being marred by spot fixing scandal in IPL, Mumbai Indians with their intimidating team and IPL Champions tag were favourites for the match. Rajasthan Royals’ captain and Indian batting legend, Rahul Dravid, after winning the toss decided the bowl first. The decision proved fruitful as wickets tumbled at regular intervals as even Sachin Tendulkar, having his final outing in the limited over format, did not succeed.

After significant contributions from Captain Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard, Mumbai Indians posted a target of 143 runs for Rajasthan Royals. While chasing this target, Rajasthan Royals lost their captain Rahul Dravid cheaply. However, Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson provided a steady start. Sanju Samson completed his half century before his wicket fell. Rajasthan Royals cruised to victory with the help some big hits from Stuart Binny with 7 wickets in hand. Vikramjit Malik of Rajasthan Royals was awarded Man of the Match for bowling figures of 3 wickets for 24 runs in 4 over.
