England win with 6 wickets in hand against Ireland

English cricket has had a golden 2013 summer, with the exception of the double ‘Peegate’ incidents. However, on the field, England has shown why they are considered as one of the best sides of the current times. Before going into the coveted Ashes series against Australia, England had the prospect of fulfilling their expectations as the home side during the final edition of 2013 ICC Champions Trophy which England and Wales co-hosted. England almost fulfilled the expectation as they reached the finals; but ended as runners up as Team India spoilt their party in the final match.

England, however, hardly did any mistake when they took to the field in the Ashes test series. They won in by 3-0 and would have easily been 4-0 had it not been for the bad light on the final day of final test. England then managed to tie the 2 match T20 series by winning the second match after losing the first one to the heroics of Aaron Finch. Post the T20 series, England once again took to field, this time against Ireland. Ireland always seemed to be standing no chance against England, even though the English side was less loaded.

After winning the toss, England offered Ireland to bat first and boosted by W Porterfield’s innings of 112 runs and contributions from lower middle order, Ireland posted a good looking target of 270 runs against England. English top order failed, but centuries from Bopara and Morgan ensured an easy 6 wicket win for England.
