SH rolls over Kandurata, Qualify for CLT20

Sunrisers Hyderabad made their debut in the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League. While there were plenty of other things which have made the sixth IPL reach headlines for all the wrong reasons like spot fixing and betting, the performance of Sunrisers Hyderabad in their maiden IPL outing was like a silver lining for the season. Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to reach the knock out stages. Though they did not forward further, their fourth position in IPL 6 points table enabled them to participate in the qualifying stages of 2013 season of Champions League 2013.

In their first match of the qualifying rounds, Sunrisers was to face Kandurata, native to Sri Lanka. The team which has banked much on their bowling during the IPL season won the toss and decided to bowl first at Mohali. On a batting friendly pitch, Kandurata made 168 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Sri Lankan Ace cricketer; Kumar Sangakkara who also plays for Sunrisers but has opted for his native team, was top scorer for Kandurata with his 61. Captain Thirimanne also hit a half century.

The chase for Sunrisers could not have been better as Shikhar Dhawan with his 71 and Parthiv Patel with his 52 shared a century opening partnership. Though these two batsmen left the crease, Sunrisers claimed victory with 9 balls to spare and 8 wickets in hand. Shikhar Dhawan proved the star of the match for Sunrisers Hyderabad for his innings of 71 runs which included 11 boundaries.
